Moderating Chat Users (Pro)
While live chat is excellent for engagement, it's crucial to give your members tools to control their own experience. FluentCommunity provides built-in moderation features that allow users to mute, block, or report others in both Direct Messaging and Group Chats.
Member-Level Moderation
Every member has access to these tools to manage their own interactions.
Muting a Conversation
If a member is in a group chat that is very active, they can choose to mute it to stop receiving notifications for every new message.
- Open the direct message or group chat conversation.
- Click the three-dot menu (...) in the top corner of the chat window.
- Select Mute Conversation.
The user will no longer receive notifications from this chat unless they are directly mentioned. They can unmute it at any time from the same menu.
Blocking a User
If a member no longer wishes to receive messages from a specific person, they can block them.
- From a direct message conversation, open the three-dot menu (...).
- Select the Block User option.
Once a user is blocked, they will no longer be able to send direct messages to the member who blocked them, and vice versa. This action is private and the blocked user is not notified.
Reporting a User
If a user's behavior violates the community guidelines, members can report them directly to the site administrators.
- From the user's profile or a chat window, open the three-dot menu (...).
- Select Report User.
- A confirmation window will appear where the member can provide a reason for the report.
This sends a notification to the site administrators, who can then review the situation and take appropriate action, such as warning or suspending the reported user.
⚠️ Important: These moderation tools are vital for building a safe online space. We recommend creating a clear "Code of Conduct" or "Community Guidelines" page and linking to it from your "Help & Resources" section so members know what is expected of them and how to handle inappropriate behavior.
